Put On a Fresh Coat of Color This Spring

army-fatigue-women-jackets-spring-2013San Diego has the best weather in the world, but it can be downright chilly in spring. That’s why I’m excited about all the new lightweight jackets and coats popping up this spring, in more styles, new fabrics, colors and cuts than we’ve seen in years.

Light and bright colors are fresh this spring. Spring’s newest shades include neutrals and pastels, but crisp greens, electric blues and sunny yellows stand out. Lightweight leathers and suedes you can wear in any season are popular. They come in unexpected colors, are designed in easy-to-wear styles, and feel perfect for our San Diego climate.

Patterns capture the spirit of now. From python prints to bold geometrics, coats have gone graphic. Big blocks of color, especially black and white, are flattering when the coat or jacket is fitted close to the body.

Shop by silhouette. Have you seen the new jackets and coats with their graceful, cocoon-like shapes, sloping shoulders and voluminous structure? Most of us recognize the Audrey Hepburn and/or Mad Men influence going on here. Feminine, with an edge, is how I would describe this look.

A new coat is one item that can energize your entire spring wardrobe, and keep you warm.
